Our cloud-based platform allows education leaders to capture, organize, analyze, and share classroom observation data in an intuitive interface, making it easy to identify teacher trends and take action to help teachers improve. We work with some of the most innovative school districts in the country (and a few overseas!) to accelerate teacher growth because we know how much is at stake for kids and families. And we’re expanding. Fast. We doubled this year and are on track to do so again next year.

The Role

Whetstone Education is hiring a Junior Software Developer to join our growing team! We are looking for a self-motivated and talented software engineer with a strong background in JavaScript to help drive the development of our software through the next phase of growth. The Developer will, under the direction of the CTO, assist in the management of projects for all aspects of our platform. This includes refining and expanding our API, building beautiful user interfaces using modern web frameworks, expanding to new platforms, and planning for future growth. The core of our technology stack is written in JavaScript (Node, MongoDB). This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who want to work with modern tech while helping improve K-12 educational opportunities for students across the US. Responsibilities

  • Help maintain and improve our existing JavaScript-based (Node.js, MongoDB) platform

  • Build new web pages using Angular levering our existing API

  • Provide technical solutions for front-end or back-end in the design, coding, testing, and deployment processes

  • Apply your unique set of skills and interests in ways that benefit schools

  • Work with customer support team to resolve user issues

  • Keep informed on emerging technologies and trends and work with the CTO on long-term planning

  • Help identify trends in data in order to create reports that help users answer the questions important to them.

Qualifications

  • Experience with modern JavaScript (ES6), including Node.JS and front-end development

  • Familiarity with REST API concepts

  • Knowledge of MongoDB (or other NoSQL)

  • Knowledge of Git and GitHub

  • Knowledge of front-end web design

  • Ability to write original code and modify existing code

  • Ability to debug problems and write maintainable code

  • Experience integrating with 3rd party APIs

  • Excellent communication skills, both written & verbal

  • Comfortable in a team-based, entrepreneurial, and hard-working culture

  • Must be based in New Orleans
